I’m selfish about vaccines

I’m very selfish on the topic of vaccine mandates.

I believe in freedom for as many people as possible.

various medical items including a stethoscope, a mask, vials and a syringe

That’s why:

I can’t help but be delighted, that the staff employed to provide my 92yo mother with daily personal and health care are required to be vaccinated.

I can’t help but be delighted, that my friend with chronic incurable health issues and a compromised immune system can once again start getting the treatments she needs, knowing all staff are vaccinated.

I can’t help but be delighted, that my friend who is in the final stages of cancer can safely take her kids and hang out at a cafe with friends like a “normal person”, knowing she’s not putting herself or her kids at risk of dying before she has to.

I can’t help but be delighted, when my husband goes to work, knowing he is equally protected by the requirement for the visiting general public to be vaccinated, and the vaccine he himself embraced so many months ago.

I can’t help but be delighted, that when I finally get to visit my mum in Queensland after a gap of over a year, I know that everyone on the plane with me has also been vaccinated.

And I’m VERY glad that I can show my own compliance with vaccine mandates, because that will protect me from any future claim by someone (a client, an employee, a contractor) that I failed to properly protect them from catching COVID.

The freedom of others matters to me because it feels so bad to care less about the vulnerable than I do about my own self.

Told you I’m selfish.
